A barrier you almost do not see
Around a pool, terrace or garden edge, glass lets you keep the outlook while meeting the need for a safe, secure boundary. Done well it becomes part of the landscape; done badly it is a row of clamps and smudged panels. The difference is in the base fixing, the glass thickness, the gaps and the finish of the hardware.
Al Jawadri has extensive experience of frameless glass on luxury villas, including clear glass balustrades to balconies and stairs at Sobha Hartland and external glass balustrades on a Dubai Hills villa. Pool and garden fencing uses the same principles, adapted for ground conditions and exposure.
Fixing options
- Base-channel fixing, with glass set into a recessed or surface aluminium channel
- Spigot fixing, with glass held by individual stainless-steel spigots
- Standoff or side-mounted fixing for edges of slabs and terraces
- Gates and access panels with self-closing, lockable hardware
- Brushed, polished or black finishes in marine-grade stainless or coated aluminium
Why the substrate decides the design
Glass fences rely on what they are fixed to. A concrete upstand, stone coping, paved surround or timber deck each needs a different fixing and different site preparation. We check the substrate during setting out, coordinate with pool, paving and landscape works, and confirm the glass thickness and fixing against the engineer's loads. Salt, chlorine and humidity near pools also affect hardware choice, so we specify finishes that will not stain or corrode.
Safety requirements
Barriers around pools and drops are a safety item. Heights, gaps, gate operation and glass type are set by your consultant and the requirements that apply to your project, and we build to that specification. Laminated or toughened-laminated glass is normal where a failure would be hazardous.
Planning your glass fence
Send the length and layout, surface the glass will stand on, whether a gate is needed and photos of the site. We will advise on fixing, glass thickness and finish. For wider pool and garden works see landscaping and swimming pools.
